In the early 1930s Joseph Stalin weaponised food to starve millions of Ukrainians to death deliberately and systematically. This atrocity is known as the Holodomor, meaning “death by hunger”. Some of the survivors of the Holodomor settled in the UK after the war and their experiences are being published here for the first time, supported by excerpts of documents of the Foreign Office from that terrible period and how the British Government at the time recorded and dealt with what it was hearing. The book includes details of local authorities in the UK that have recognised the Holodomor as genocide and locations of Holodomor memorials in the UK.
